Growing up I never took road trips. We ALWAYS hopped on a plane and headed to our destinations. My father was a commercial pilot and in the 80s and 90s, it was an easy thing to do. Fast forward to my adult life and I see all the amazing things I missed out on by NOT taking road trips. Sure the speed of getting somewhere was great, but isn’t it also about the journey?!
It’s not the Destination that makes the trip, it’s the Journey!
Road trips can be an amazing experience and an opportunity to explore things you never thought about. You never know what kind of place you will stumble upon in the tiny towns along the way. We all have stories about funny mistakes and things we have gotten ourselves into on a road trip. Those are the stories that are told in gatherings amongst our friends. They are usually the most hilarious and entertaining if not memorable parts of the trips we experience.
Why I love to have my OWN Vehicle on a Vacation
I love the ability to take my vehicle to use at our destinations. We all know that if you have a vehicle set up for the activities you like to do, you most definitely will miss it when the occasion arises to get out there and use it at your destination. I mean come on, who DOESN’T want to drive up a mountain? You can in your TRD Off Road 4Runner! I chose my 4Runner for that very reason. Why wouldn’t I want to travel with it? It also isn’t going to limit my activities by the roads I can go on in a rental car.
Let’s be honest, we know there are always items we have to bring on a vacation. There just never is enough room to pack everything you need when you have to fly there. In my vehicle, I can pack all of our camping gear for anything we might want to do on our adventure. We aren’t limited to an AirBnB or VRBO and hotels for our lodging.
Camping in Nature or Staying in a Hotel? You can do Both!
It can be an amazing experience to get out in nature in a new place and explore the beauty it has to offer. The pictures we look at longingly aren’t of our hotels, but of the nature we find with breathtaking views. These are the places we don’t want to leave when it’s time to go.
If you are hesitant about taking a road trip, keep in mind you don’t HAVE to rush to your destination. Take the trip in segments and explore along the way. You will find that you don’t have to pressure yourself to get somewhere as quickly as possible, but instead, try to find opportunities along the way.
It’s the Journey where life happens. So slow down! Take it in! Enjoy the Journey!
